What is SIRVA

SIRVA stands for Shoulder Injury Related to Vaccine Administration and is a post-vaccination complication. Translated as a shoulder joint disorder related to vaccination, acute inflammation of the shoulder that occurs after vaccination causes persistent shoulder pain and limited range of motion (arms cannot be raised or turned backwards). After intramuscular injection of the vaccine, the pain, swelling, myalgia, and joint pain at the inoculation site usually improve in a few days. In most cases, it will improve within 2 weeks at the longest. However, such pain may persist for more than 3 months and may lead to chronic pain.

SYMPTOMS & DIAGNOSIS

Why does SIRVA happen?

Inappropriate vaccination against the deltoid bursa (a fluid-filled bag near the joints: called the subdeltoid bursa) found deep in the deltoid muscle (shoulder muscle) by the procedure of intramuscular injection. It is believed to be due to injection. Medical institutions are conducting a mission that they have never experienced before, in order to suppress the new coronavirus, by injecting deltoid muscle into almost all the people, but such an adverse event has occurred. It is also true that there is.

What is "moyamoya blood vessel" caused by SIRVA?

Blood vessels increase in the inflamed area during the repair process. Abnormal blood vessels that form at the site of pain appear hazy and blurry on angiographic images, so these new blood vessels are called “moyamoya blood vessels” for the sake of clarity. It is known that pathological nerves are also growing near the blood vessels. In addition to emitting pain signals, these are thought to cause prolonged pain due to increased local tissue pressure due to increased morbid blood flow. In general, people over the age of 40 are more likely to experience prolonged pain because their ability to naturally reduce blood vessels is weakened.

Treatment

Effectiveness of locomotor catheter treatment

Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a minimally invasive treatment used to stop serious pelvic bleeding. The cause of such bleeding could be uterine fibroids (noncancerous tumors inside the uterus), trauma, malignant (cancerous) gynecological tumors, or hemorrhage following childbirth, among other conditions.

The terms uterine artery embolization and uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) are often mistakenly used to mean the same thing. To be exact, UFE is a particular kind of uterine artery embolization. As noted above, UAE can treat a number of conditions other than fibroids that cause pelvic bleeding.

Shoulder injury related to vaccine administration, or SIRVA, happens when a vaccine is injected too high or too deep in the shoulder. Injecting the vaccine this way can lead to intense and prolonged pain and other shoulder injuries, such as a rotator cuff tear or tendonitis. Shoulder injections are typically given in the deltoid muscle. When the injection is given too high or too deep in this muscle, the needle can hit bone or puncture the fluid-filled sac called the bursa, which protects the tendons in the shoulder. When this happens, the bursa, tendons and ligaments can become inflamed. SIRVA can happen when a provider uses a needle that is too long for the patient or does not inject in the correct spot in the shoulder.
Most vaccinations into the shoulder can cause muscle irritation. However, pain from SIRVA results from injury and inflammation in the shoulder joint and can be intense and long lasting. Shoulder pain is the most common symptom of SIRVA, and it can begin immediately or up to 48 hours after the injection. Your shoulder can also be difficult to move.
People with symptoms of SIRVA should schedule an appointment at Perimeter Orthopaedics as soon as possible. Your doctor will do a physical examination and may order tests to look for injury or inflammation in your shoulder. It’s important to tell your orthopedic doctor that your symptoms began soon after a vaccination, since that may be the key to getting the correct diagnosis.
